The corneal resurfacing procedure reaches a natural limit for high refractive errors, which should not be exceeded. For myopia, this limit begins at approximately -10 diopters, and for hyperopia at +4 diopters. This procedure is also used to treat presbyopia.

This method is divided into 2 areas:

• • • Intraocular lenses
      An intraocular lens is implanted into the eye. In eyes with high short-sightedness or long-sightedness that are not suitable for laser treatment due to a cornea that is too thin, the refractive error can be corrected using a phakic IOL procedure. In cases of severe astigmatism, toric ICL lens implantations are also used. In combination with a LASIK procedure to correct any corneal irregularities, refractive errors of 7 to up to 25 dioptres for short-sightedness and 5 to 13 dioptres for long-sightedness can be corrected.

      The phakic IOL procedure can be used in patients over the age of 18 who suffer from glaucoma (increased intraocular pressure), certain retinal diseases, and cataracts or glaucoma. The decision as to whether this operation can be carried out can only be made after thorough preliminary examinations, during which the degree of refractive error, the dilation of the pupil in darkness, and the exact structure of the cornea are assessed.

      The phakic IOL procedure delivers safe results for patients with high short-sightedness and long-sightedness.       Multifocal lenses for presbyopia
      In principle, this artificial lens is used to correct presbyopia (also known as age-related long-sightedness), a condition in which the eye loses the ability to focus on near distances. With a multifocal lens, concentric rings of varying widths are layered on top of each other. This creates different visual zones or focal lengths, from which the eye subconsciously selects the appropriate zone.
