Eberli wrote to us.

For six years, I wore contact lenses. I was short-sighted, around minus 1.5 dioptres. In many situations, the contact lenses were uncomfortable, especially in wind, smoke, for example in nightclubs, or simply when I wore them until late in the evening. Glasses were never an option for me for cosmetic reasons.

An ophthalmologist told me that if I continued to wear contact lenses so frequently, it would not be good for my eyes over the years. So I started looking into other options and became aware of laser eye surgery.

In 2006, I went to Winterthur for a brief preliminary test to gather information. It turned out that an operation would not be a problem for me. Nevertheless, I was somewhat shocked by the price. I would have had to expect costs of up to CHF 8,000 for both eyes. I could not afford that. I then looked around on the internet to see whether there were more affordable options in other countries.

That is how I came across www.swisslasik.ch. I liked the website very much because everything was described in a very professional and detailed manner. I immediately got in touch with Mr Karaagacli-Leoni. Among other things, he told me that more and more people were travelling to Istanbul for eye surgery, as they are well known for it and already have a great deal of experience. I also asked a few Turkish people what they thought about it. I only heard positive things. So I decided to go with Swisslasik.
Mr Karaagacli-Leoni organised everything for me:
the preliminary examination in Zurich, the flights, the hotel, a city tour in Istanbul, and so on. After I had signed the contract, I received a Swisslasik pass. This contained all the information I needed for the journey and my stay in Istanbul.
In September 2006, I then flew to Istanbul with a companion. At the airport, we were picked up by a German-speaking Turkish woman who welcomed us very warmly and took us to the hotel. We had chosen the more affordable Hotel Gül, a simple hotel with a friendly, German-speaking owner.
The following day, we were picked up again for a city tour. In the centre of Istanbul, we visited the Blue Mosque, the cisterns and other sights. The next day, things really began. We were taken to the hospital by taxi. This was followed by the preliminary examination, during which everything was checked thoroughly once again. Everything was translated for me by the German–Turkish-speaking companion, so that I was able to communicate with the doctors. We decided to go ahead with the LASEK procedure.
After the preliminary examination, I was taken to the operating theatre. The doctor who operated on my eyes was always very calm. You could tell that he had performed such operations many times before, which naturally reassured me. First, a sterile covering was placed over my face and my eyes were disinfected. Then my eyelids were opened and fixed with the help of a small device so that I could not close them during the operation. The so-called flap was then loosened and rolled to the side. The corneal tissue was then removed with the laser, which only took about ten seconds. Everything was completely painless and uncomplicated. The second eye followed immediately afterwards. After about twenty minutes, I was already able to leave the operating theatre. There was a brief check-up, and then we were driven back to the hotel.
The day after, the first follow-up check took place at the same hospital. I was given eye drops and painkillers. During the first few days, I experienced slight stinging and tearing. In addition, my vision was poor during the first six days after the operation. After about a week, it gradually improved. Back in Zurich, I went for follow-up checks one week after the operation and again after four weeks. Everything had gone perfectly. After four weeks, I was already seeing very well. Only in the dark was the contrast not yet optimal, which is normal. The doctor in Zurich explained to me that the final visual acuity is only reached after around three months.
In retrospect, I can say that I would have this operation again immediately. With independence from visual aids, a more comfortable life has begun for me. The entire organisation surrounding Swisslasik was very good. Mr Karaagacli-Leoni showed a great deal of commitment and was always there for me. In the end, the whole experience cost me just 3,000 Swiss francs.

The previous report

Experience report LASIK ISTANBUL – Report from Wednesday, November 29, 2006 This is what our patient C.
