My liposuction in Istanbul at Acibadem Hospital – report from Sunday, August 7, 2011
For a long time, the fat deposits on my hips and legs had bothered me. Despite dieting and exercising a lot, these areas simply did not become slimmer. I did extensive research online about surgery and also informed myself about the possible results and risks. There were many positive testimonials, and the results looked really impressive. At some point, I decided to go ahead with liposuction.
The only thing left was to find the right surgeon. Since a colleague of mine traveled to Istanbul for eye surgery, I got the idea to have the procedure done there as well. I also liked the thought of being on vacation and then returning home changed. I contacted Swisslasik to inquire about the surgeon and promptly received his CV. From this, it was clear that Mr. Sükrü Yazar is a top address for cosmetic surgery.
At first, the idea of having surgery in Turkey felt a bit strange. But basically, the risks are the same everywhere — something can always happen. The hospital can be viewed virtually online, and I have to say it made an excellent impression right away. So my decision was made, and I registered for the operation.
Together with my colleague, I flew from Zurich to Istanbul. There, I was already welcomed by a chauffeur from Acibadem Hospital and taken to the surgeon for the preliminary examination. At the hospital, my coordinator Seyma was already expecting me. Unfortunately, she only spoke English, but since my English is good, that was not a problem. There are also coordinators who speak German.
My personal details were recorded, and shortly afterwards I had my consultation with the surgeon. He examined my figure, showed me where fat should be removed, and once again explained the risks to me. We also discussed the type of anesthesia. Since general anesthesia was not an option for me, an anesthesiologist had to be consulted. I wanted local anesthesia, and this request could also be fulfilled. Blood was then taken, and afterwards I was driven to the hotel.
The night was not particularly restful, as I was quite nervous. The next day, I was picked up at 7:00 a.m. and taken to the hospital. There, I was shown my room and had a little time to settle in. Shortly afterwards, the doctor came and marked the areas where fat would be removed. Then the anesthesiologist came and once again discussed the chosen anesthesia with me. A short time later, I was taken to the operating room. The anesthesia was administered, and I was put into a kind of twilight sleep. I did not notice anything from the operation. After about two hours, I was woken up and told that the surgery was over. I had to stay in the recovery room for a short while, after which the nurse brought me back to my room. I felt good, although I was still a little groggy. A few hours later, Mr. Sükrü Yazar came by and asked how I was feeling and whether I had any pain. Afterwards, I received an infusion with fluids and some pain medication. I was also given something to eat.
Since it is important to get up again soon after the operation, a nurse came and helped me to stand up. The walk to the toilet was still a bit unsteady, but I was already able to walk. The nurses were really very friendly and made a great effort. I was always cared for and looked after with great kindness. Sometimes communication was a bit difficult, but with hands and feet it worked well. Later that evening, I was already able to walk on my own again. I then spent one night in the hospital.
Early the next morning, the surgeon came by and I was able to look at my hips and legs for the first time. Well, it wasn’t exactly pretty — everything was blue, green, and purple. But at the hips, a clear change was already visible. I was very satisfied. He also gave me a prescription for medication and explained the dosage to me. Later, a young woman came and brought me the medications. Then I was discharged. The chauffeur drove me back to the hotel.
In conclusion, I can say that my stay in the hospital was very pleasant. The service was fantastic, and the single room can be compared to a hotel room — really top-notch! I was still a bit tired the whole day, but I was already able to walk around a little. The pain slowly started to become noticeable; it felt like strong muscle soreness. At night, I slept well thanks to the medication.
The next morning, I took my first shower. That went quite well, although my movements were still very stiff. The pain was still there, and I found that the operated areas looked terrible. Since I had informed myself well beforehand, I knew that this was normal. That day, we even visited the Grand Bazaar. However, I got tired quickly and was glad to be back at the hotel. The very next day, we traveled back to Switzerland. The flight went well, and I was happy to be back home. I could finally take off the special compression garment and wash it. The pain had already decreased significantly, and I could move much better. After the journey, I slept extremely well.
Today, about four weeks after the procedure, I have no pain at all anymore, and the bruises have disappeared. The scars are so small that they are hardly visible. The final result is not yet fully apparent, but what I can see, I really like.
