My recommendation for laser eye surgery in Turkey – Istanbul – Report from June 20, 2020

My eye surgery (laser eye surgery) in July 2018 in Istanbul:

Before the surgery, I was sitting at the computer looking for ways to treat my eyes more affordably. Since we all know how expensive it is in Switzerland, and I simply lacked confidence in Swiss doctors, I came across Swisslasik. The first thing I did was look at customer testimonials, then information about the eye treatment options. I was fed up with spending CHF 120 for 90 daily contact lenses at my optician.
Since I was planning a holiday in Turkey anyway, the timing was perfect.
After a few email exchanges with Swisslasik, I decided to have my eyes lasered; the price was very reasonable, too.

We (my parents, my siblings, and I) drove to Turkey and were also mobile in Istanbul. We organized our own accommodation (I’m the kind of person who prefers to think and act independently). You get used to the traffic; we always managed to get through it without any problems.

During the first week, we had time for ourselves, went everywhere, and enjoyed the warmth, the food, and the salt sea.
For those who enjoy shopping and aren’t very familiar with the area, I can recommend “Kapalı Çarşı”.

On the day of the operation at Maslak Hospital, we reported to the reception and shortly afterwards our contact person, who was provided by Swisslasik, arrived.

I was nervous, as always, but at the same time excited that my life would change for the better from that day forward. Before the surgery, we had another eye exam to make sure everything was okay.

Before entering the operating room, I was given a patient gown. Naturally, I was very nervous at that moment.
The operation went smoothly and painlessly. Since space was needed around my eyes, they were held in place with an instrument, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. It lasted 20 minutes.

After the surgery, I felt a sensation in my eyes like there were grains of sand in them, but that was normal and I already knew about it. I was given special glasses to protect my eyes. I also received three different types of special eye drops. By the way, you can also find the long-acting eye drops here at the pharmacy (Artelac Splash EDO). Perhaps new eye drops will be available in 2020.

Just one day later, I was able to leave the house and continue exploring the city, and I no longer felt any grittiness in my eyes. I continued to wear the protective goggles. All in all, I had a wonderful vacation. I can highly recommend Swisslasik and the city to everyone.

Looking back:
Now, almost two years later, I’m still very satisfied and my vision is still just as good. It’s still important to protect my eyes, since I spend a lot of time at the computer; it’s up to me how I treat them.

I can also say, having spent a lot of time in Turkey, that what people say here is just a product of the sensationalist media. The people there are normal, calm, and helpful. In Turkey, I get far more smiles in return than anywhere else.
It’s not like people block your way or try to sell you something. Even women have no trouble walking alone through the streets, even if they’re blonde. I feel just as comfortable there as I do here.
If Turkey didn’t have its current president, the country would be in communist hands, with no freedom and jobs only for certain people.

What I personally experienced was a miracle: I had left some money at a clothing vendor’s stall at a market—it was a small amount, about 30 Swiss francs. The vendor ran up to me, and as I was about to leave, he gave me the money I had left behind.
