Very satisfied, even though we weren’t fans of procedures abroad at first! – Report from Saturday, April 9, 2016
Experience report on laser eye surgery in Istanbul
My partner and I both wear glasses. Last summer, he mentioned that he really wanted to get his motorcycle license. He found glasses and a helmet bothersome, and contact lenses weren’t ideal either, as his eyes would quickly start to hurt. A colleague told him she’d had laser eye surgery in Turkey and was very happy with the results. After that, we did some research online. Since I was very afraid of the procedure and unsure if I even wanted to go through with it, we sought advice from an eye clinic in Switzerland. After extensive research and reading patient testimonials, we decided to have the treatment done through SwissLasik in Istanbul.
Since the hotel suggested by SwissLasik didn’t appeal to us and we wanted to combine the eye treatment with a city break, we inquired whether it was possible to book the trip and the treatment separately. This was easily arranged, which pleased us greatly. I emailed Mr. Kara at SwissLasik our flight numbers and the booked hotel. Although we booked the trip and accommodation ourselves, the transfer from the airport to the hotel was provided. The driver was very friendly and always punctual, which must be a huge challenge given the traffic chaos in Istanbul.
The telephone consultation and email correspondence with Mr. Kara were always very friendly. Questions were answered promptly. We even received tips regarding hotel bookings.
On the day of the treatment, we were greeted at the clinic by a German-speaking gentleman who accompanied us during the preliminary examinations, the treatment itself, and the follow-up appointment the next day. The hospital staff and the doctor made a very competent impression. The clinic is modern and very well-maintained.
The procedure took just under 15 minutes. Afterward, we received protective goggles and eye drops. We were given precise instructions on how and when to use each drop. We experienced no pain during or after the treatment. The very next day, after our follow-up examination, we were able to fully enjoy Istanbul again without glasses.
Due to my slight visual impairment in my right eye, only my left eye needed correction. During the consultation in Switzerland, this wasn’t mentioned to me, which initially made me uneasy. I spoke with the ophthalmologist again and explained my situation. She then rechecked all my measurements and informed me that her results were correct and that something might have been misinterpreted during the tests in Switzerland. After this conversation, I decided to trust the doctor and went ahead with the treatment. It seems I’ve been walking around with the wrong correction for six years. According to the optician, I had astigmatism and needed the larger correction. If this had been properly checked back then, I certainly would have been spared countless hours of headaches.
Although we’re not usually fans of procedures abroad, we can wholeheartedly recommend SwissLasik and the Acibadem Clinic. Absolutely top-notch!!!
