My laser surgery in Istanbul – report from Wednesday, April 11, 2012

From February 8th to 11th, 2012, I was in Istanbul for laser eye surgery. The Swiss Lasik team handled all the travel arrangements, including the preliminary examination with an ophthalmologist in Zurich. This was very helpful for me, as I wasn’t traveling alone but brought my husband and son along for support. When we arrived in Istanbul, the country was covered in snow, which wasn’t unusual, but the sheer amount of snow caused some difficulties. However, we received a warm welcome and were driven safely to our hotel. The following day, we were all taken to the modern hospital and didn’t have to wait long. All the tests I had already undergone in Switzerland were repeated, which further reassured me that everything would go well. The ophthalmologist who would be performing the surgery explained the technique she would be using and what I needed to be aware of afterward. I had the surgery that afternoon, and the interpreter kept me informed of what to do, so it was all over quickly. Afterward, we were taken back to the hotel, laden with medication and protective goggles. The next morning, I was taken back to the hospital for a follow-up examination, and everything looked very good. It was like a miracle to me; I could already see the evening after the operation. My vision wasn’t perfectly sharp, but I didn’t have to worry about bumping into anything, as I had a diopter value of -6.5 and astigmatism so severe that I couldn’t see anything without glasses. Unfortunately, we couldn’t see much in Istanbul because of the heavy snow, so we spent our time in the nearby shopping center or at the hotel to recover. Back in Switzerland, I went back to the ophthalmologist in Zurich a month after the surgery for a follow-up examination, which is included in the price package. The doctor confirmed that everything looked very good and that I had 100% vision in both eyes. I’m going again next month for the final check-up. I would advise everyone to have an examination in Switzerland beforehand to find out if laser eye surgery is even a possibility. The cooperation with ophthalmologists in Switzerland for follow-up examinations is highly recommended and provides peace of mind. Laser surgery fever has broken out at our company, and while other providers were recommended to me, only SwissLasik was an option because the price-performance ratio is right and I feel secure knowing the follow-up examination is included. And listen up! Life changes; my husband says he’s found a new woman. I feel free and much more attractive.
