EXPERIENCE REPORT ON LASER EYE SURGERY – Report from Thursday, April 21, 2016

For about five years I suffered from my glasses and contact lenses; I was very sensitive to both. Then one day a colleague told me he’d had laser eye surgery and felt like a new person. At first, I didn’t believe him, but over time I realized he had no pain or anything, and his vision was excellent. I asked him if he knew anyone else who had had the procedure done at Acibadem Hospital in Istanbul, and he said yes, his aunt had also had it done successfully.

So I researched the procedures much more thoroughly and kept hearing that they were harmless or safe. This gave me the confidence to take the next step: I looked for a travel agency until one was highly recommended to me – MedicalTravel.

Just a few days later, I contacted you, and your approach seemed professional and very friendly. Now it was just a matter of time before I traveled to Istanbul for the eye surgery. I chose two public holidays that followed the weekend. I was able to book a week in advance, and the office arranged an appointment for me very quickly and reliably.

So on Thursday, I got in the car and drove to the airport. Two hours later, I arrived at Istanbul Airport, where a team was waiting for me. They had a very comfortable lounge and even offered free Wi-Fi, which was very convenient for contacting my family in Switzerland without any problems. We waited comfortably for the pick-up service, which had also been organized by the travel agency. The bus ride to the hospital was also very convenient.

On the first day (Thursday), I had a dental treatment which was quite inexpensive, of good quality in my opinion, very hygienic, and almost painless. Later, I was able to explore the city a bit, which I really enjoyed. The shopping centers in Istanbul are amazing, so we had some time for shopping on the first day. Then we went to the hotel, which I thought was reasonably good; it wasn’t the best, but perfectly adequate for such a short stay.

The next day, we went back to the hospital, where we were first examined on Friday. In the morning, we underwent various examinations, all of which went smoothly, as everything was explained to us by a German-speaking interpreter. We were told exactly what to do and were able to ask questions whenever something was unclear.
In the afternoon, the surgery already took place. I was extremely nervous and had to go to the toilet several times, even though I knew everything would be fine and still felt a sense of reassurance inside. We were then escorted to a room where we all had to wait and were called in one by one.
Then it was my turn. I went in for the laser procedure and was very nervous. Once I was in the room, I trembled a little, but that quickly passed. When the operation began, it was not associated with any pain at all. The procedure mainly required a bit of courage and strong nerves, as you are awake during the operation. However, there was hardly any pain to be felt—only very slight touches on the eye, which I barely noticed. After just a few minutes, it was already over. I was able to leave the operating theatre, which was a great relief.
Once outside, I already noticed that my vision was sharper, although I still had to wear protective glasses so that the light would not dazzle me. Back in the waiting room, my eyes started to burn slightly, which is completely normal after an operation. That evening, I experienced some burning and tearing, but this also passed after a few hours, and I was able to see again.
The absolute highlight was when I got up the next morning and could see almost 100% without glasses. I was so thrilled and happy and felt like a free person.

In conclusion: I recommend Femto-LASIK to anyone who dislikes wearing glasses; it’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my life.
