Laser eye surgery in Istanbul: My experience report – Report from Tuesday, May 1, 2018

After various discussions and research, I decided to have the surgery in Turkey and contacted Swisslasik. Mr. Kara answered my emails quickly and competently each time.

In April 2018, my family and I travelled to Istanbul for four days. We booked the flight with Turkish Airlines ourselves and stayed at the Levent Hotel.

Upon arrival at the airport, we were picked up as promised and driven to the hotel. On the day of the surgery, we were again picked up promptly at the hotel and taken to the hospital. The driver was friendly and helpful at all times. In the morning, I had the preliminary examination, during which various tests were performed to determine if my eyes were suitable for LASIK surgery. Since the decision was positive, the surgery was performed in the afternoon. The interpreter, who accompanied us throughout, was always helpful and friendly. He was even present in the operating room, which was very reassuring.

The operation itself only took about 15 minutes and was generally painless, although you do feel a slight pressure when the eye brace is applied. A follow-up appointment took place afterward, and since this was also positive, our driver took us back to the hotel. I gladly followed the recommendation to keep my eyes closed for four hours after the operation, as I could barely open them. However, it got better with each passing hour, and after a pain-free night, I could already see clearly.

The day after the operation, I was allowed to replace the special sunglasses with my own. My eyes were still sensitive to light but didn’t hurt. They did feel a little dry, but since I received special eye drops, this feeling quickly subsided. The driver picked us up from the hotel again on time and took us to the hospital for the follow-up examination. There, the interpreter met us and took us to Professor D. Banu Cosar. The follow-up examination was also positive, and therefore I was discharged.

Since my eyesight was perfectly fine, we decided to explore the city. The feeling of seeing clearly without contact lenses or glasses is indescribable. On the day of our departure, we were picked up again by a chauffeur and taken to the airport. The entire stay was trouble-free; all appointments were kept punctually, and any questions we had were answered competently.

Acibadem Hospital is a very modern and large hospital where you feel comfortable at all times. The pre-operative examination, the surgery, and the follow-up examination were all excellent. The doctor, Prof. D. Banu Cosar, and our interpreter did a superb job. Their professional and interpersonal skills are outstanding. I would definitely recommend this surgery in Turkey to anyone at any time. The price-performance ratio is excellent.

Now, a week after the operation, I am still pain-free, my vision is completely sharp, and I am not experiencing any side effects such as halos. My eyes are just a little dry, but the artificial tear drops I received are helping.
