A new lease on life without glasses. – Report from Friday, July 10, 2009
A new lease on life without glasses. Since my pregnancy two years ago, I couldn’t stand wearing contact lenses anymore. The constant itching, burning, and strange feeling in my eyes… It became increasingly difficult for sports and everyday life with a correction of -2.75 diopters. My son also enjoyed my glasses every day, as did my optician adjusting them ;-). Through friends, I heard about SwissLASIK and spontaneously decided to put an end to the suffering. I did have a strange feeling when I really started looking into laser eye surgery. Everywhere I heard, the risk was far too high, don’t do it! But I mustered all my courage and registered for the preliminary examination in Zurich. I got an appointment for a follow-up that same week. The numerous tests, some of them quite unpleasant, went well. I received the positive news that nothing stood in the way of laser surgery. After a shopping trip in Zurich, I went straight home and registered online with SwissLASIK for the procedure in Istanbul. The incredibly fast service allowed me to get a surgery appointment within three weeks. Swisslasik handled all the arrangements, from the flight and pick-up to the hotel and clinic stay. Saying goodbye to my two men at Zurich Airport was especially difficult. However, the flight with Turkish Airlines was smooth and helped distract me from my homesickness. I was picked up on time at Istanbul Airport, and on the way to the hotel, I was able to learn quite a bit about the city. With German and Swiss German support available on-site, my trip to Istanbul was perfect. I received thorough instructions for the surgery, so I didn’t panic during the procedure. As part of the pre-operative preparation, I was allowed to sit in a massage chair and received a thorough kneading. To my surprise, the hygiene standards were very high. The surgery went very well; the only unpleasant part was the pressure I felt on my eyes. The atmosphere wasn’t as tense as you might expect before surgery in Switzerland. Everything went perfectly and to my complete satisfaction. I simply followed the surgical team’s instructions, diligently taking the prescribed drops and enjoying the four hours of sleep I got at the hotel. Using the drops wasn’t easy at first. Without a mirror, I missed a few drops. This allowed me to see Istanbul from a different perspective for a day and a half. It’s simply wonderful to be able to see without corrective lenses after the procedure. The only longer period of difficulty I experienced was when using the computer and watching television. I was very grateful for the drops on the flight back to Switzerland. Because of the higher air pressure and air conditioning, it was recommended to use the drops every half hour. Given the price-performance ratio, I can wholeheartedly endorse this approach and encourage anyone considering laser eye surgery to take the plunge. In hindsight, I would have done it much sooner, as a life without glasses brings so much more quality of life. Now I have my first follow-up appointment in Zurich. For me, this check-up is pure confirmation of the excellent work done by the Turkish staff at the EYE STAR Clinic. My eyes are doing wonderfully. I would like to sincerely thank everyone involved for their support and the excellent organization. Kind regards, Sandra Blöchlinger-Cortesi
