PRP HAIR TREATMENT
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) What is PRP?
PRP is used to promote faster wound healing and hair growth after a hair transplant. Treatment with PRP aims to revitalize weak hair follicles that are prone to falling out. It has been observed that in patients treated with PRP, the hair in the treated area becomes less thin and the hair shafts thicken.
Patients who receive PRP after hair transplant surgery experience faster wound healing. The red spots and scabs that appear after the procedure disappear more quickly, and the hair growth potential of the transplanted hair follicles is higher.
PRP is patient-derived plasma with an increased platelet count. The patient’s own blood is used for PRP. Essentially, PRP is like donating your own blood before surgery. Because the patient’s blood is used, no immune reactions have been observed. PRP does not cause allergic reactions.

How is PRP produced?
- As with any laboratory blood test, approximately 10 cc of blood is taken from the patient who is to be treated with PRP.
- The blood is transferred in a sterile environment into a special device to increase the number of platelets in the plasma volume.
- The cells are separated by centrifugation, and the platelet concentration in the blood plasma increases many times over.
This procedure can increase the platelet count in PRP four to eightfold. Studies have shown that its positive effect on hair follicles depends on the growth factors in the platelets.
How is PRP administered?
The PRP is injected subcutaneously under the hair follicle. The injection is painless and quick (2-3 minutes). The patient can immediately resume their normal daily activities; there is no swelling or bruising.
Who can receive PRP therapy?
Anyone suffering from seasonal or genetic hair loss, and whose hair has become thin and weak, can undergo PRP treatment.
PRP in hair transplantation
PRP performs three functions in hair transplantation:
- Increasing the viability of hair follicles after a hair transplant (FUE with PRP)
- Faster recovery after a hair transplant
- Vitalization and stimulation of the transplanted hair follicles after a hair transplant.
It takes some time before the hair follicles taken from the donor area are transplanted to the recipient area. Maintaining the viability of the hair follicles during this period is crucial. To achieve this, the extracted follicles are stored in a specially prepared, refrigerated solution.
In a new procedure, PRP is added to the storage solution or the hair follicles are directly washed with a PRP solution, with the positive effect being immediately apparent. A PRP injection has a positive effect on the viability of the hair follicles, accelerates wound healing, and stimulates hair growth.
Does PRP have side effects?
The patient’s own blood is used for PRP. Allergic reactions or infections are impossible. It is essentially the same as donating one’s own blood.
The effects of PRP treatment can vary from person to person. PRP treatment has a supportive effect; expectations for the period following treatment should be realistic. The treatment only supports physical recovery.
