Trip to Istanbul from March 28th to 31st, 2012, surgery on March 29th – report from Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

The four of us traveled to Istanbul to have laser eye surgery. We’d all wanted to do it for a long time, and I’d already attended an information session in Zurich. It was very good, but I still wasn’t sure if I really wanted to travel to Turkey for it. Then an acquaintance gave me the address of a clinic in Germany. All four of us went there for a preliminary examination and received confirmation that we could have laser eye surgery. We then made an appointment and received a cost estimate by mail. Starting at €3,100, and even more expensive depending on the diopter strength. They were advertising for €790 per eye, which made us a bit hesitant. After a few phone calls and inquiries about the high price, we also got a quote from Swisslasik. Everything went so smoothly and brilliantly – quote on March 6th, flight on March 28th, surgery on March 29th – that all four of us ended up booking with Swisslasik. The reaction from so many friends was always the same: “You’re brave, how can you do that in Turkey?” etc. I had researched it thoroughly beforehand and was always convinced I’d made the right decision. And it was true: We were picked up from the airport and taken to the hotel. Afterwards, we visited the bazaar and went for a drink. The next day, we were picked up from the hotel on time and taken to the ACIBADEM clinic. Another person from Switzerland joined us; she was also having laser eye surgery. So there were five of us, and we had to go through all the examinations again. An interpreter was always present, including during consultations with the doctor. I always felt well cared for. We were able to have lunch in the cafeteria after we’d all been informed that the surgery would begin at 2:00 PM. I was very nervous. The interpreter was present again during the surgery and explained everything to me. It was fantastic; I never felt alone at all and could ask questions if anything was unclear. The surgery was successful for all five of us, and after the examination, we were driven back to the hotel with eye drops and protective goggles. We had four hours of rest – everyone slept – our eyes were a little itchy – but none of us were in pain. After those four hours, my vision was already quite sharp. Some went out for dinner, and the others slept through the night. The next day, we were picked up for a follow-up examination and driven back to the clinic. All the examinations were conducted with an interpreter, and everyone received positive results. The surgery was successful for everyone. Even after the initial examination in Zurich, I’m absolutely thrilled and can highly recommend Swisslasik. We booked everything at very short notice and got a very good price for all the services. The service, the information, the support, the surgery, the hotel – everything went exactly as promised. I’m so glad I chose Swisslasik. The four of us are all back to 100% vision and absolutely delighted. I found Istanbul to be a very beautiful and interesting city. The Turkish people are incredibly friendly and helpful.
