My experience with LASEK in Istanbul – Report from Thursday, May 26, 2011

I found swisslasik.ch online and studied their offer. I also looked at other offers, but in the end the premium package from swisslasik.ch convinced me the most. To gain a personal impression, I visited swisslasik.ch at the holiday travel fair. The entrance ticket was provided by swisslasik.ch. After gaining an overall very positive impression, I booked the trip and the operation. What convinced me most was the value for money.
In Switzerland, I arranged an independent eye examination in advance. This means that I did not go to a doctor recommended by swisslasik.ch. The doctor informed me that my eyes were healthy and that he would recommend LASIK treatment. On 24 April 2011, I travelled to Istanbul with Swiss International Air Lines. At the airport, we were picked up by a limousine and taken to the hotel. The chauffeur was also an assistant from the Eyestar Clinic.
The following day, I was picked up from the hotel and taken to the clinic. The hotel was within five minutes’ walking distance, which was certainly a great advantage. After a thorough examination at the clinic, the doctor informed me that he would not perform LASIK on me, as some areas of my cornea were too thin. As an alternative, he offered me LASEK treatment at the same price. I agreed, and an appointment was scheduled for the afternoon.
The operation itself was not a problem. You are very well looked after, and everything is translated into German. After the operation, I returned to the hotel and slept for around four hours. Afterwards, I was already able to go back into the city and enjoy a nice meal. As I stayed in Istanbul for another two days, I was able to attend follow-up checks daily.
Back in Switzerland, I immediately arranged a follow-up appointment with a doctor in Arbon, Thurgau. As the healing process after LASEK takes longer, I have already required three follow-up examinations within one month. Unfortunately, the surface of my cornea is not yet smooth. For this reason, my vision is currently only at 60 per cent. However, the doctor in Switzerland has spoken with the surgeon in Istanbul and discussed the further course of treatment. If the surface does not become completely smooth again, I can travel to Istanbul once more thanks to the premium package.
I can fully recommend swisslasik.ch. I was satisfied, even though the healing process is taking a little longer than expected. 26 May 2011 Christian Lichtensteiger
